Finding Healing: A Journey to Empowering Women through Functional Medicine
In 2018 I decided I was fed up with feeling like crap all the time. I was only 26 years old, but I was experiencing all sorts of unwanted symptoms.
I’m talking frequent debilitating migraines, mood swings, depression, anxiety, diarrhea that had me fearful of eating out with friends or going to events, I was spotting between my periods, along with random other things.
I had spent some time scouring the internet trying to figure out why a generally healthy 26-year-old, would somewhat suddenly be starting to experience all these symptoms. To make a long story short, the link I found between all these symptoms were that birth control could be a potential cause.
I talked to my doctor about it but was brushed off and recommended to go on additional medications: something for my stomach and something for anxiety & depression. I tried that for a little while but didn’t feel any better and actually felt worse in some ways.
So, I decided to stop all the medications, birth control included. I lost my period for almost 10 months.
I reached out to my doctor for help because I knew it wasn’t normal for me to not cycle…..but again, I was brushed off & told I should “probably just go back on birth control”.
At this point I was extremely fed up with how I felt, how I was being treated by doctors, & the lack of answers I had. And I was scared. My whole life I wanted to be a Mom, and my whole life I’d had an underlying fear of infertility.
Again, turning to the internet for answers, thank goodness I found functional medicine. An approach that believed in getting to the real cause of a symptom or problem. An approach that did not believe in “bandaids” like ‘just going back on birth control’.
At the time I didn’t know any practitioners that had been trained in functional medicine, so I was learning and figuring it out all on my own. It took quite a bit of time, but after lots of trial and error I finally figured out what things helped me to feel better and after a few months my period returned!
I had been pretty open about my experience, and the women around me started asking lots of questions. I shared with them what I had learned and resources that I found to be helpful. They too started feeling better and noticing improvements with their unwanted symptoms.
After helping several friends, and their friends, and their friends I felt called to share what I knew on a larger scale & my business helping other women fix their hormone imbalances was born.

Thank you for sharing this! I can totally relate to feeling brushed off by doctors. The worst time was when I was breastfeeding and in unnecessary pain for 4 months. I was brushed off by 4 doctors and made to feel like I was crazy, but when I saw a lactation consultant, she told me to take one pill that fixed everything within a day, and it was caused by something all 4 doctors should have mentioned but didn’t. There needs to be more of a push for functional medicine rather than bandaid solutions!
